10 tips for the interviewer attending the job interview

IF have applied for job or you still applying you can not escapes the need to prepare for a job interview. Not even the smartest and most qualified candidates. Why? Because interviewing is not an innate skill and you will never have two chances to make a good first impression. So do not hesitate, and study these 10 strategies to improve your interview skills. 

1. Pay attention to your non-verbal communication

This is a great way to show confidence in yourself: stand up straight, make eye contact and give a strong, honest handshake. This first nonverbal impression can produce a good primer, or a rushed ending for your interview. 

2. Dress according to the position or company

Casual outfits are accepted nowadays in some circumstances, but It is important to opt for a professional and impeccable appearance. The choice between a suit jacket (a tailor for women) or a less formal dress depends on the corporate culture and position you want. If possible, call before the interview to find out about the company’s dress code. 

3. Listen

From the very beginning of the interview, the interviewer sends you information, either directly or indirectly. If you do not listen, you miss a great opportunity. Good communication skills include listening carefully and letting your audience know that you have understood what they said. Observe your interviewer, and conform to his style and pace. 

4. Do not talk too much

It can be a fatal mistake to say more than what you are asked. If you have not prepared in advance you may answer questions too vaguely and for too long, which may be an automatic exclusion. Prepare for the interview by re-reading the job offer: match your skills to the job requirements, and stick to that. 

5. Do not act too familiar

The interviewer is a professional who meets you to talk business. You are not here to make a new friend. Your degree of familiarity should be modulated according to that of your interlocutor. It is important to be energetic and enthusiastic, and to ask questions, but never leave your role: the candidate looking for a job. 

6. Use appropriate language

It is obvious that you must use a professional language. Refrain from using overly familiar expressions and slang terms, or any reference to age, race, religion, politics or sexual orientation – topics that may ship you out of the office very quickly. 

7. Do not be pretentious

Attitude plays a key role in the success of interviews. There must be a balance between self-confidence, professionalism and modesty. Even if you put yourself on the scene to show your abilities, overconfidence is as bad, if not worse, than an overly reserved attitude. 

8. Answer the questions precisely

When an interviewer asks you for an example of where you did a particular thing, he wants an example of your behavior in a given situation. If you do not answer with a specific example, not only do you not answer the question, but you also give an opportunity to demonstrate your abilities and talk about your skills. 

9. Ask questions

When asked if they have questions, most candidates say “No”. Wrong answer. To make a good interview, you need to be ready to ask questions to demonstrate your interest in the recruiting company. It can also help you determine if it’s a job that’s right for you. The best questions are related to listening: at the end of the interview, ask for additional information or clarification. 

10. Do not look hopeless

The attitude “Hire me, I beg you” only serves to make you look hopeless and out of trust. Serenity, calm and confidence are the watchwords. You know that you are qualified for the job: just make sure the interviewer knows it too.
